In the given article attention is paid to factual ground of the events in the novel «The Demons», their almost exceptional chronological order with narrator’s participation in the action. The fact which is established is that the author’s ego is a structurally organizing component both in the satirical article and in «The Demons». In such a way the publicistic element shows itself in the narrative structure of this novel. It is obvious that the presence of publicistic elements is a striking feature of the satirical genre determining not only the originality of the narrative manner of the work under analysis but having strong influence on the formation of the poetic manner of Dostoevsky’s novels in general.
